As a part of its original commitment, the Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd (AJL) is already running 50 electric buses since Dec 2019. These buses have been specially allotted by the Hon´ble Chief Minister Shri VijaybhaiRupani under the Urban Mobility Scheme.
Using 50 electric buses is estimated to reduce emission of about 3,000 tons of carbon, a big step towards a cleaner planet. Besides that, electric buses are practically noise-free. That means they do not contribute to the noise pollution that´s commonly associated with public transport.
To make sure these buses continue offering timely and efficient services, bus depots with Fast Charging Technology have been set up. This ensures there are no bottlenecks when it comes to charging these busses.
AJL is planning to add another 150 electric buses into their existing fleet for better service delivery and a healthier environment.
No pollution at source:
How you generate electric power to run the electric buses also can impact the environment.
As further evidence of their commitment to a greener planet, AJL have gone one step further. They have installed rooftop solar panels on the BRTS bus-stations. These panels will generate the power that will go into the recharging of the electric buses, instead of sourcing power generated from conventional sources like thermal power stations that use coal to generate electricity. The solar roof-tops ensure that there´s no pollution at the source of power generation.
